This week GAB are looking at the benefits of gaming. We’ve almost drowned ourselves in discussing race and geek girls - and it’s high time we had a nice break to feel warm and fuzzy.

Lets remind ourselves of not only why we love gaming, but why it can be good for us.

We’ll be posting and linking things like the one above (source: http://visual.ly/gaming-good-you) here, and on our Twitter, Facebook & Website.
And you can share your questions and stories with us by dropping us an Ask.

Merry Gaming :)

Me and my sibilings are homeschooled,  and you know what taught my little brother to read/ write? Minecraft. He plays on servers and had to learn how to talk to people on the chats

It’s stuff like this that’s making me excited to study game design this Fall. I swear, video games deserve much more credit than they get.

UK grading system
75-100 A+
70-74 A
64-69 A-
60-63 B+
55-59 B
50-54 B-
46-49 C+
43-45 C
38-42 C-
35-37 D
0-34

Time to move to the UK

well this is fucking bullshit

wtf

idk if it’s like this for the entire USA school system, but i’ve grown up with:

  • 100-90 A
  • 89-80 B
  • 79-70 C
  • 69-60 D
  • 59-0 F

sometimes depending on the individual school’s preferences, b/t 59 and 55 is a “passing F” which is complete shit tbh

I don’t know where the hell you guys got this from, but I sure as hell wish I could get a grade B with as low as 50

Just trampy girls that probably have never played the game, looking for a way to make money and internet fame. They are succeeding there, but failing at an actual good cosplay.

Can I just say how mad this pic makes me? They give a bad cover to girl gamers everywhere. Bet you any amount of money they don’t even know the names of the Assassins

I can only agree with being mad about this… whyyyyyyy make everything slutty??? How much more awesome is a GOOD cosplay where you actually wear some material…

God forbid a pretty face and nice bodytype play games. Whatever their motive is behind this, may it be for fame or maybe their own enjoyment, I personally like their renditions of each chara. I’ve seen worse and better but really guys— cosplay is suppose to be fun for the person and everyone. It’s people that blurt out hate comments that make it where I roll my eyes at you. So you either like it or hate it, cool cool but to just jump into assumption of things and feel YOU have the better knowledge of them without even knowing their situation, do you want a pat on the back or something? /rolls away

The only ones giving a bad cover to girl gamers everywhere are those who feel the need to shame and degrade others because looking “slutty” = fake, amirite? There are so many things wrong with these comments, I don’t even know where to begin.
1). Too much skin: The manner in which they wear clothing and how much of it overrides everything else. Cosplayers? Gamers? Assassin’s Creed fans? LOL NOPE, TOO MUCH SKIN, THEY’RE ACTUALLY TRAMPS. So, does that make all Faye Valentine’s tramps too? How about all the Yoko’s out there? If you’re that scared of skin, please, go look at other cosplays. No one’s forcing you to stare. If it’s the fact that they redesigned the original outfits, then my bad. You’re absolutely right. It’s obvious that people should stick to tradition instead of showing off their creativity as cosplayers and artists by changing a few designs. What were they thinking.
2) Fake: The fact that #1 automatically brands them as “fake” gamers, vying for attention and fame. Really? Really? We get it enough from the guys, we most certainly do not need this from girls too. Please, enlighten me, are there special criteria for anyone to be considered a “real gamer”? Do I have to play all the games, know all the characters’ names and their mothers, complete every side-quest, make the exact same costume to wear as cosplay, have the exact same body type/skin tone/gender of the character I’m cosplaying as, wear glasses but wait I must have eye problems or else I’d be doing it for style and style is bad? And god forbid, if I’m attractive, I might as well stop trying, right?
3) Gamer? Cosplayer? N/A?: You know nothing about these girls. Absolutely nothing. You have no right to assume what they are and aren’t. Maybe they’re all rabid fans. Maybe they’ve only played a few games. Maybe they’ve only played one. Maybe they haven’t played at all, but adore the costume designs. Maybe you are, in fact, right and they’ve spent time, effort, and money on these outfits and props (which, might I add, look professionally done) just for fame and attention. And that’s okay. We all enjoy our passions differently and we exhibit them differently. That doesn’t give us the right to dictate what someone is and isn’t for them. There is a world of difference between “I personally don’t like” and “They are”.
4) Slut-shaming: The use of the words “tramp”, “slut”, “whore” are not needed, as they were clearly used in a derogatory way in the above comments. Yaaay feminism. I’m too tired to even begin to explain why this is wrong, but come on…
Fact is, all this hate is turning you into bullies. That’s all I see it as. You’re degrading them for no valid reason at all and perpetuating the “fake nerd/geek/gamer girl” trope even more. It’s fine if you don’t approve of their choices, it’s fine if you don’t like what they did with the costumes. We all have our opinions, and that’s okay, but to publicly shame them like this is wrong.
tl;dr Stop the slut-shaming, stop calling anyone “fake, slut, tramp, whore”, and let people enjoy their nerdy-ness or geeky-ness however they please.

How much money are we going to bet that this is pretty much how they’d have looked if Ubisoft had made them female?

Argument I heard on the bus
Guy 1: no, niggah, gay bros can raise babies. Look at that warthog motherfucker and that ferret thing that raised Simba. And that niggah became king of motherfucking Africa.

The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth
Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.
Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.
Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
Do not harm little children.
Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

I miss Angelshaiface

Angel was awesome. She was funny, nice and a really kind person. And I miss her a lot. She was the only person who I really spoke to after my mother died and actually ended up taking that role. She looked out for me, made sure everything was okay. And then after months of talking to her, she got upset and took a break from everything online. And she never came back.
